Living together as God’s people

Jesus told us, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34-35).

Throughout the history of the church, God's people have gathered in smaller groups for growth, care, and mission. They met around the scriptures, broke bread (ate food!), shared life and needs, encouraged each other, and prayed together (Acts 2:42-47).

In community groups, we have an important opportunity and context to fulfill Jesus’ command to love one another. At Cross of Grace, our goal for community groups is to be a place to experience this ongoing work of the gospel in relationships and to specifically practice the 59 “one-anothers” seen throughout the New Testament. For example, “love one another” (John 13:34), "live in harmony with one another" (Ro 12:16), "offer hospitality to one another" (1Pe 4:9), and "serve one another" (Gal 5:13).

Therefore, Community Groups provide an opportunity and context to fulfill Jesus’ command to love one another and to live out our mission to make and mature disciples together through the good and power of His gospel. Groups meet bi-monthly in people's homes, typically around a meal, where the one-anothers can be fostered and fellowship can continue into life and relationships through the week.
