Strengthened by Grace

Throughout his second letter to Timothy, Paul is encouraging his apprentice to work hard in ministry, giving practical examples from the lives of farmers, athletes, and soldiers. But the call to work hard is blanketed by two other deeply significant commands. Timothy must be strengthened by grace (v. 1) and he must remember Jesus (v. 8). In our ministry areas – whether that’s our church, our neighborhood, our home, or our world – it’s possible to forget the grace of Jesus Christ. This grace, found only in Jesus, is the very fuel needed for fruitful and faithful ministry.
